Who We Are.
Focused on the future and fueled by a proud pedigree of energy leadership that stretches back more than 150 years, CNX is a premiere independent oil and gas exploration and production company with operations centered in the Appalachian Basin. Embodying a renowned spirit of innovation, we're pioneering a new tomorrow through technological advancements in shale gas exploration and production in the most prolific natural gas basin in the world. Like few other companies can, we're drawing on our proud past while embracing fresh thinking and leveraging the ingenuity of our people to, once again, forge a new energy future for the Pittsburgh region and beyond.
A Proud Lineage.
Born of a long line of energy icons
Emerging from the 150-year legacy of CONSOL Energy, our roots trace back to John D. Rockefeller’s Standard Oil Company. Just as Andrew Mellon, and later CONSOL, united the vast coal resources of Appalachia in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, so too did Rockefeller and Standard Oil consolidate the extensive natural gas holdings in that same footprint. CNX is the modern-day descendant of these fabled companies.
New Energy. New Promise.
Singularly focused and poised to fuel the future
From the well head to diverse end-user markets for natural gas, resources from the Marcellus and Utica shale are disrupting the energy paradigm at home and abroad. Low cost natural gas from the Appalachian Basin doesn’t just generate the electricity that powers daily life; it also heats our homes, provides the feedstock that will ignite a manufacturing renaissance and continues to bring about great benefits to American consumers, workers and the environment.
Today, with the separation of CONSOL Energy’s natural gas and coal businesses complete, CNX has re-established the legendary natural gas estate of Standard Oil. With deep roots in Pittsburgh’s illustrious past and having played a vital role in powering an industrial revolution that changed the world, we're now poised to responsibly fuel the region’s resurgence and serve as a model of American success—today, tomorrow and always.
