RADICAL TRANSPARENCY OVERVIEW

Radical Transparency: A New Era of Responsible Domestic Energy Development

In late 2023, CNX unveiled a first-of-its-kind collaboration on environmental monitoring, data collection, and real-time disclosures with Pennsylvania’s Governor Josh Shapiro and the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection (“PA DEP”). We call this effort Radical Transparency.

Radical Transparency means CNX will monitor air and water quality for operations across our footprint and open source this data in real-time via a public website. Additionally, CNX will publicly disclose all chemicals intended to be used for drilling and hydraulic fracturing before they are used, with no trade secrets. These disclosures create a mutual trust that will serve as the basis for future cooperation and real environmental and economic progress. The air quality data is collected by an accredited third party and shared with the PA DEP and with CNX at the same time, this provides further transparency and confidence to the public in its reliability. The data will facilitate informed policies and regulations by PA DEP and provide CNX with unimpeachable facts to advocate for our company and industry.

This unprecedented brand of transparency is good for resident and worker health, for economic development, for energy security, for the environment, and for community investment. Through our Radical Transparency program, we aim to lead the industry to a new era of responsible domestic energy development.

Nick Deiuliis, CNX Resources Corporation President and CEO speaks to the press. Governor Josh Shapiro and CNX Resources Corporation (NYSE: CNX) President and CEO Nick Deiuliis announced a historic commitment that will further heighten the company’s operational disclosures in collaboration with state environmental regulators and the public, furthering a promise Governor Shapiro made as Attorney General to advance commonsense measures that prioritize public health and safety and ensure the natural gas industry is performing its work in line with the highest standards. 2024 Highlights

Environmental Stewardship

Our efforts to protect and improve the environment are revolutionary and unmatched:

  • Radical Transparency – Creating Mutual Trust through Facts and Data: As CNX’s novel Radical Transparency program advanced across operating areas, initial results from continuous monitoring by Clean Air Engineering demonstrated CNX site-level emissions are far below nationally-designated air quality standards. Importantly, no sustained levels of asthma-inducing PM2.5 or cancer-causing BTEX were observed during any phase of development. Within the first year of the Radical Transparency program, hundreds of thousands of datapoints were collected, reported to PADEP, and transparently posted on the CNX website. The number of sites equipped with monitoring equipment continues to grow, with active and archived sites contributing to the real-time feed of air data, and water and chemical data.
  • Bold Greenhouse Gas Reductions: With Appalachian natural gas already boasting the lowest methane intensity of all producing regions in the nation, CNX takes these qualities to the next level through an Emission Reduction Task Force that’s always innovating to further reduce our emissions footprint.  With a mission to further reduce methane in our midstream segment, we invested $5 million into various technologies, including switching to electric-driven pumps at the Mamont Compressor Station. The Mamont Station is also part of our Radical Transparency program, feeding air quality data to Mamont Station – CNX in real-time
  • Pioneering Waste Methane Capture: CNX captured approximately 9.1 million metric tons of waste methane CO₂e, far surpassing emissions from our activities. Importantly, U.S. Treasury recognized the value captured waste coal mine methane presents as a feedstock for clean hydrogen production in their final tax credit rules (45V). We’re encouraged by this milestone, but remain committed to advocating for opportunities to fully realize the benefits this ultra -low carbon intensity fuel source can unlock in our region and beyond.
  • Innovation and Partnerships: 2024 was another year of differentiation at CNX, advancing oilfield services solutions that provide cost, safety and environmental efficiencies for the industry. We launched the AutoSepSM Technologies (AutoSep) joint venture with Deep Well Services (DWS), which introduced an automated flowback system for the completions process that leverages our technical development capabilities with the service quality standard DWS provides to the industry.

      We also reached new CNX milestones during the year, notably completing the first full year of deploying CNG water-hauling trucks in southwestern Pennsylvania with FORCE Environmental Solutions. By using CNG, these trucks reduce emissions by 30% and related operating costs by 50%.

      Teaming up with NuBlu Energy, 2024 saw the launch of ZeroHP CNGTM, a cutting-edge technology that eliminates the need for mechanical compressors. The new process displays myriad advances including drastic reductions in capital and operating costs, environmental footprint, required maintenance, and trailer fill time. With the capability to fill the largest virtual pipeline trailers in about an hour without the need for refrigeration, the patent-pending approach furthers CNX’s strategic position to meet the growing demand for clean and affordable energy.

    • Water Stewardship: We recycled and reused more produced water than we produce ourselves by consuming produced water from our peers to minimize freshwater consumption. In 2024, CNX continued to upgrade and expand our water infrastructure—further reducing the need to transport water via truck and diversifying freshwater sources to lessen our impact on water resources.

    Community and Workforce: Tangible and Local Investments

    CNX has a unique commitment to local communities. We roll up our sleeves and tackle the toughest of issues:

    • Community Engagement – Transparency Dialogue, and Active Listening: At its core, Radical Transparency is about open-sourcing environmental data, but it’s also our way of being open with stakeholders and our local communities and constantly fielding questions and seeking feedback. Through a combination of data-driven efforts and hosting community open houses so local residents can directly interact with CNX employees, we’re learning more about our communities’ individual needs and are able to adapt operations to best fit each operating area.
    • Community Investments: In 2024, work in the Westmoreland County and the Alle-Kiski valley came into focus as activity moves in that direction. Importantly, the $20 million Kiski water line project was completed in June and is designed to better serve our local operations while delivering water resource solutions for area residents. The 20” line is expected to serve as the primary alternative to water purchased from the Municipal Authority of Westmoreland County (MAWC) during voluntary or mandatory water conservation periods. The water line also significantly reduces the need for CNX to utilize water trucking, further reducing community impact.

      Complementing this growing operational footprint in this region, we opened an office in North Apollo to provide residents, local businesses, landowners, and community members with a place to access the CNX team. With the acquisition of Apex Energy’s upstream and midtream assets in Westmoreland County, this office location will serve as a meeting area for new landowners, community members, and other stakeholders to get to know us.

    • Moving a little further south, we also established a new regional headquarters in Richlands, Virginia. Ground zero for our mine methane capture operations, the expanded presence will enhance CNX’s unique opportunities to help meet rapidly expanding energy demand in a way that advances energy security and decarbonization goals.

    • Words in Action: Since 2022, CNX’s Board has approved an aggregate amount of $5.5 million, including a $1.5 million reduction approved in 2025. The Board then determined to support expansion of the following efforts of the CNX Foundation:
    • ◦ Leveraging existing partnerships with school district administrators in areas in the region where we operate to eliminate school debt for families struggling to keep up;
      ◦ Honoring Appalachia’s legacy of military service by supporting projects and initiatives directly benefitting veterans in need through locally focused government and private organizations in areas in the region where we operate, and;
      ◦ Working with local healthcare providers, utilities, and businesses to relieve debt related to essential needs for the underserved in areas in the region where CNX operates.
    • Mentorship Academy: Student participation in our Mentorship Academy—now entering our fifth year—increased 44%, with 122 students enrolled. The academy includes underserved students representing 28 schools/school districts. More than half of 2024 Mentorship Academy graduates secured full-time employment in a target industry, or a coveted paid internship exclusive to Mentorship Academy graduates in healthcare, building trades, corporate support, or the Short Service Employee internship in Energy.
    • CNX Foundation: In 2024, the CNX Foundation contributed $3.7 million through 144 initiatives aligned with its Tangible, Impactful, Local focus on community support. These efforts are part of CNX’s pledge to invest in local initiatives supporting underserved communities within our operational footprint. CNX Foundation principles are also embodied by employees, who in 2024 volunteered over 3,500 hours.
    • The Headquarters at CNX: In 2024, three new tenants joined the Headquarters at CNX, bringing capacity to 92% providing workspace to 29 total tenants. The Headquarters at CNX provides world-class workspace at our corporate office to small businesses, including minority and women-owned businesses, educational institutions, and non-profit organizations emphasizing support for the same Tangible, Impactful, Local causes in which the CNX Foundation invests.

    Stakeholder Engagement

    Successful engagement starts with understanding how we can better collaborate with our stakeholders through transparency, dialogue, and active listening. We work together with our stakeholders to solve community issues, promote economic opportunities, and build relationships to help our region thrive.

    We have previously listed news media and industry analysts as key stakeholder groups. However, as CNX continues to evolve and develop company platforms and brand journalism channels to illustrate the company’s corporate strategy and results thoroughly and transparently, third party analysis and coverage, which are often inaccurate or biased, have become obsolete.

    About our ESG reporting

    Our reporting was prepared following the recommendations from the Oil and Gas metrics from the Sustainability Accounting Standards Board (SASB), and the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) Standards. CNX also references the IPIECA Sustainability Reporting Guidance for the Oil and Gas Industry to inform our reporting, and other key external governance, social, and environmental metrics and topics important to our stakeholders and community. Transparency is vital to CNX, our Sustainable Business Model, and our stakeholders. CNX has consistently increased participation in voluntary disclosures in recent years, including our Radical Transparency program, and we will continue to share key metrics in this report and other public disclosures.

    Verification and Audit

    CNX obtained limited assurance from Keramida, Inc., a WBE-certified global sustainability and EHS services firm, for certain ESG data presented on this website and the ESG Performance Scorecard—specifically Scope 1 and Scope 2 greenhouse gas emissions, air emissions, water, and waste data. CNX’s Internal Audit & Advisory Services team performed a review and provided limited assurance for all other data presented in the ESG Performance Scorecard. Note that certain financial data included in the scorecard is also subject to internal control procedures that are required for the Sarbanes-Oxley Act Section 302 certifications included in our SEC filings.

    Material topics

    CNX evaluates the materiality of ESG matters against two criteria: potential impact to our business and importance to our stakeholders. Our ESG assessment helps shape our ESG strategy, Enterprise Risk Management process, and reporting focus. This assessment will be updated as new developments arise that have the potential to impact our assessment of ESG materiality.
